Beware of Gale and Hail

Took Mary and Russ out today for a spin on Utah Lake.
I had been monitoring the weather the whole weekend looking for a window in the bad weather to do some sailing.
Well we found one at 9:30am...beautiful.

Russ takes the wheel, while I raise the sail.

We enjoyed the peace that happens once you bring up the motor and catch the wind. That's when the moment begins - you're sailing.
We had just enought time to snap a classic photo in front of the "main-sl" (a.k.a. Main Sail)

Then the Sirrius Sattellite Weather alarmed "storm, less than 10 miles away, closing in fast!"

Just as we entered the safety of the harbor, things started looking like this...+HAIL+GAIL force winds...seriously!

I might as well have gone swimming today...drenched, head to toe. But it was worth it: everyone was safe, enjoyed the beauty of nature, and good conversation with family.

Then we 1) met Stephanie, Nic, and Ollie for lunch at Rubios, 2) went home to a power-outage from the raging storm 3) build the first fire of the season.

I can feel the sailing season slipping away.
Last chancers, better let me know soon!

  2. Christian, Thanks for the great sailing experience. It was kind of exciting at the end when we sailed ahead of the storm. I love the picture of you pulling down the sails. Can't wait to do it again sometime. Mom
